Overview – Format4 PLAN 51 L
The robust Format4 plan 51L surface planer from the premium Format4 range impresses with its new design, particularly with its 3-metre-long planing tables. The inlet table alone provides 1,650 mm of support surface, making it suitable for machining larger workpieces.
A special feature of the planer is the tilting planing table, which enables the production of concave and convex glued joints. The space-saving design of the planing fence allows the machine to be positioned directly against the workshop wall. Comfortable protection of the planing head is integrated into the machine housing and can be folded away, which together with the machine cover design ensures complete freedom of movement when planing.
Electric height adjustment Power Drive is included in the standard equipment and provides the highest level of comfort in operation. The ergonomically designed control panel is positioned at eye level.

41Tersa cutter head enables exceptionally fast knife change without special tools. Four self-centering knives ensure smooth running, precise machining and high-quality planed surface.
44The spiral planing head Silent-Power reduces noise during planing by more than half. Specially developed carbide knives with continuous pull cut ensure a smooth surface without tearout on all wood types. The optimised dust extraction cover efficiently removes short shavings, which pack more compactly in bags and therefore need to be changed less frequently. The knives have four precise cutting edges and up to 20 times longer service life than conventional HSS knives. A damaged knife can be quickly and easily replaced individually.
The system is characterised by VERY QUIET OPERATION (approx. 80 dB(A)) and quality of the planed surface. The knives cut the wood diagonally to the direction of feed of the workpiece through the machine, which results in a PERFECTLY PLANED SURFACE.
The cutting system with spiral knife arrangement significantly reduces forces on the workpiece during planing, which results in NOTICEABLY REDUCED VIBRATION of the workpiece during planing and REDUCED POWER CONSUMPTION.
The knives are in constant contact with the workpiece. The spiral knife arrangement system does not require any special tools for knife adjustment (EASY MAINTENANCE).
In the event of damage to any of the knives, only that knife is replaced or turned over, unlike the conventional knife system where the entire knife must be replaced in case of damage. Due to the cutting dynamics of the spiral head, SIGNIFICANTLY LESS ENERGY is required for cutting than with a conventional planing spindle.
